An insight into PR Lady Lisa from Diamonds & Pearls Antwerp
Lisa (29), PR manager and editor at Diamonds & Pearls Communications.
Lives in a flat in the centre of Antwerp
Purchased in 2019
A mix of vintage design, new and DIY
This month we take a look at an interior in Antwerp. We take a look at the eclectic flat of Lisa, the PR lady, in 'Sex & The City' style. Lisa studied journalism and public relations and during her studies she got a great internship at Diamonds & Pearls Communications. After graduation she was immediately offered a job, but chose to travel the world and surf first.
Lisa's lifestyle
When she returned from her trip, the job offer still stood and she moved to Antwerp. In 2019, she bought her cosy flat in the heart of Antwerp. "I am originally from Rumst, but I always dreamed of living in the city. I had been working in Berchem for 6 years, so it was a logical choice to move to Antwerp. After two years, I still think "ha, I live here". It's crazy. And yes, proud to be in Antwerp!"
Lisa had a whole list of requirements, and in fact this flat didn't meet them at all. "But it was love at first sight”.
At 60 m2, it's not a very spacious flat, but it allows Lisa to think carefully about what she's going to put inside. You won't find any unnecessary brollies here and the furniture has to be not only beautiful but also practical. "Every piece you see here I have chosen with a lot of love. Although I am rather sceptical in everyday life, I really knew what my flat should look like. I really had a picture in my head and this was what it had to be. No other options."
A flat in a special place
As there was no room for a proper dining table, Lisa's father made her a high bar table. "I'm lucky to have a handyman dad. I see things, and he makes them. My father: the man who knows everything and can do everything!" He assembled the metal frame himself and bought the marble plaque from a tombstone manufacturer. "It saves a lot of money, and you would never guess that it was originally a tombstone.
In Lisa's flat, it's the perfect table for a cup of coffee at the weekend, with a view of the market outside the door. This is her favourite place in the flat: "Here I have a perfect view of the square. I'm quite curious and I can really look out for hours. There's always something going on here. In fact, I don't need a TV at all!"
The location of her flat is very important to Lisa:
"My grandfather ran a vegetable stall at the morning market until the late 1960s, here on the Theatre Plein. Sometimes I look out the window and imagine what it was like. He never knew I was coming to live here on 'his' square, but I think he would have been very proud."
Lisa's favourite object
The centrepiece of Lisa's interior? It's without a doubt the vintage Sputnik lamp that hangs in the living room. As soon as you enter, your eyes are immediately drawn to it. "This lamp used to hang in my grandparents' house. As a child I always thought it was hideous. Now I love it, it's really a unique piece and a beautiful memory of my grandparents."
On the toilet hangs another "highlight": laughing, Lisa points to the calendar of handsome men. "It's a group of guys from Antwerp who do a sexy photo shoot for a calendar every year. The proceeds from the calendars go to a good cause."
Furnified's Oskar sideboard is also one of his favourite items in his home. "I was looking for an original vintage piece of furniture to use as a TV stand, but it soon became clear that I would have to sell a kidney to get it. Then I came across Furnified; a unique and affordable design. The Oskar sideboard turned out to be the piece of furniture of my dreams and fit perfectly in my home! I am still very happy with it!
A glimpse into the centre of Antwerp
In Lisa's room you almost forget that you are in the heart of Antwerp; it feels like an eternal summer. The warm colour of the wall, the rattan bags from Bali, the dream catcher from Mexico and the boomerang from Australia give a holiday feeling, and it looks just as good in the bedroom.
She had the large wardrobe made to measure: "It was really expensive, but I can fit all my clothes in it and I also use it as extra storage.
